Dear friends
As you may be aware, Gerrie has been battling multiple myloma for some time. At the beginning of December, he was diagnosed with a brain tumour and underwent radiation therapy in a bid to shrink the tumour. He was in and out of hospital throughout December. He spent Christmas with his family, but was readmitted to Flora Clinic on 26 December as his condition deteriorated. On 30 December, at his request, he was brought home to spend his last days in his own home with Jeanette (who is recovering from surgery and is facing her own fight with cancer as she starts chemo at the end of January), his children and grandchildren. A number of the friends and members of the Via Christi Community were also able to visit and reminisce with him.
Gerrie passed away during the early morning of 2 January. He had an opportunity to say his final goodbyes to his family, and his passing was peaceful and painless.
Thank you for the role you played in my dad’s life. You enriched his life as much as he enriched yours

I want to pass my condolences to the family of Rev Lubbe who gave his life in service of all South Africans and to create lasting reconciliation as a true Christian leader of this generation. Not one for th Spotlight but influenced so much of what we will continue to reap as a united nation and people under God.
Siyabonga Mfundisi Inkosi Ibe Nawe! Thank You Pastor/Teacher God Be With You!
You were an icon in the struggle for freedom and fortified the stand with Christian values. I remember your humility and kindness to as Children. Your legacy will pass from generation to generation. You were a leader in every sense and aspect of life. I can picture you eating with your hands in my mums house and enjoying the curry and rice. You thought me how to play cricket and encouraged me to be confident children. The camps in Magalies Berg was exciting and awesome. You touched our life’s like a lamp, so that we may touch others. We celebrate your life with joy and jubilation. You are early because you have arrived, we are late because we are yet to embark on this final journey of Bliss.
